Families and schools across L.A. are invited to come together for this powerful weekly workshop designed to inform, support, and empower our communities. Developed with the help of trusted nonprofit experts, these sessions cover key topics like legal rights as immigrants, education, housing, health, and more. While not offering legal advice, the workshops provide vital tools, resources, and connections to help families stay prepared and resilient.

 

Weekly virtual workshops start Friday, August 22, 2025. Morning sessions take place on the 1st and 3rd Fridays* of each month, and evening sessions on the 2nd and 4th Fridays*. For full details and Zoom links, please refer to the flyer.

All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center's (ILRC) Red Cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, such as when Immigration, Customs & Enforcement (ICE) agents go to a home.

CA Dept. of Education Toolkit: Our Schools – Resources for Including Immigrant Families

This toolkit, Our Schools: Resources for Including Immigrant Families, provides family-facing posters that communicate assurance of all schools’ obligation to provide every child with access to education and a safe learning environment, regardless of immigration status, as well as guidance for best practices when immigration agents are present on school sites. We encourage all California schools to make these resources visible and accessible to families.

Understanding the differences between a subpoena and a warrant — documents that immigration agencies rely on as part of their tactics to coerce cooperation — is critical and enables people to exercise their rights in an informed manner.

This factsheet from the National Immigration Law Center (NILC) provides community members and advocates clarification on:

• Immigration enforcement power and immigration subpoena power
• How to distinguish between judicial warrants and subpoenas and their administrative immigration counterparts
• What to do in response to receiving an immigration warrant or immigration subpoena

Some people avoid using the public benefits that they are eligible for because they think it will prevent them from getting a green card or becoming a citizen. The truth is that many immigrants are eligible for public benefits and can enroll without impacting their immigration status. Stay connected with trusted sources of information to learn about any changes to benefits eligibility or to the public charge test. This is general information only. The primary purpose of the SEPA Center is to accelerate and facilitate the enrollment and adaptation into school for newly arriving and continuing students attending L.A. Unified schools. The center's services also include assisting schools across the District by providing consultation and advocacy for families. The SEPA Center is staffed by a multidisciplinary Student Health and Human Services team, including a Pupil Services & Attendance (PSA) Counselor, Psychiatric Social Worker (PSW), School Nurse/Nurse Practitioner, Health Insurance Advocate, and Interpreter Aides.
